Making Essential Oils
And Lotions

Making essential oils and lotions is fun! You're able to create original mixtures from aromatic scents and natural products for a tremendous amount of uses.

Essential oils are pure extracts of plants, herbs, shrubs, their flowers, stems, and roots. There are hundreds of essential oils present in nature. You name it and it's there: lavender, patchouli, tea tree, rosemary, eucalyptus, citronella, pennyroyal, bergamot, jasmine, rose, lily, jojoba, cedar wood, and peppermint.
  • They have tremendous healing and cosmetic effects on the mind, body, and soul.
  • They reduce stress, strain, and anxiety.
  • They calm and soothe an individual physically and emotionally.
  • They have various antiseptic and detoxifying effects.
  • Such oils can be used to combat bugs, fleas, mosquitoes, and ants.
  • They are also beneficial for the skin and hair.

These are all reasons for making essential oils and lotions!

Essential oils are available in bottles, as aromatherapy candles, in soaps, lotions, and creams. It's best to mix essential oils with a carrier or base oil because the direct application of some oils might have an adverse effect on your skin. You can also use soaps, lotions, and creams enriched with the goodness of essential oils.

Essential oils must be stored in dark-colored glass bottles. Clear glass bottles might allow outside light to react with the oil and spoil it. Plastic bottles, too, are harmful. The oil can react with the plastic and dissolve it.

Essential Oils and Lotions

Making essential oils and lotions is simply a matter of following a few processes carefully. It is also inexpensive. You require essential oils, water, and an emulsifier, which will help in blending the water and oil together to make a natural lotion.

Experiment with any kinds of essential oil to soothe your skin. You'll need to extract the essential oil through either distillation or pressure and then proceed to prepare the natural lotion. You also need to determine what kind of skin you have — dry, oily, or combination.

  • Myrrh helps in replenishing moisture.
  • Geranium invigorates dry skin.
  • Lavender, rosemary, and lemongrass tone and refresh.
  • Lavender, juniper, and patchouli can cure acne.

Similarly, there are a number of other kinds of essential oils that have a variety of uses. Just do a little research, and you'll be on your way to making essential oils and lotions with your own special blends!
