There is no shortage of essential oils uses at home. Try an assortment of these natural oils to freshen the air, repel insects, use for first aid, create a soothing bath, and much, much more!

Essential oils are extracted from the leaves, roots and/or flowers of the plants through the process of distillation, centrifugation, and/or chemical solution. Essential oils possess various therapeutic and cosmetic benefits. They are used in lotions, perfumes, and shampoos, among other things. These oils are very effective in elevating your mood and and stimulating your physical and mental performance.

Uses at Home

  • Essential oils are known for their strong aroma. They create a very cozy ambience and have a calming effect. The aroma energizes the brain and has the capacity to reduce anxiety.

  • You can pour a few drops of your favorite oil — lavender, orange, lime, citronella, mint, thyme, cypress — in a diffuser or in boiling water for a refreshing scent all through the day.

  • You can also use fragranced candles for the aroma. The other alternative is to use the oil mixed with water in a spray bottle. You can spray it on the curtains or garments. Avoid spraying it directly on wood, though.

  • Balls of cotton soaked in your favorite essence can be placed in the drawers of the refrigerator.

  • Tea tree oil can be used to treat minor cuts and burns. In fact, it's a good idea to keep a bottle of tea tree oil in the first aid kit.

  • A warm soak in the tub with a few drops of essential oil will refresh you and give you peace of mind.

  • Certain oils can be used for flea control and as a mosquito repellent, too.

  • A peppermint spray is very effective for combating a mice problem.

  • Lavender, peppermint, citronella, and similar oils can get rid of ants and cockroaches.

  • Many essential oils uses at home are also used in homemade lotions, shampoos, and soaps.

  • Essential oils uses at home are also used to freshen the air. You can put two drops of oil onto a cold light bulb, so that the aroma spreads into the room as the bulb heats up.

  • Tea tree, rosemary, orange, lemon and other oils to will eliminate unwanted smells in the room. Also, a few drops in the trash can act as a disinfectant.
